Looks like my pantry is going to be paying off...unfortunately

I say "unfortunately" because although my wife and I have enough food on hand to sustain us for several months, we're going to have to tap into our extended pantry due to my losing my job today. I'd really appreciate everyone's prayers as I'm starting the job search. In the meantime, it looks like we're going to have a lot of homemade soup with our rice and beans! Please keep us in your prayers, and I'll post an update on here hopefully soon.

  1. See Prepping is a good thing. Will pray for you. It sure is getting ruff out in this ol' world. But I believe that God will not desert you in your time of need. And ain't it grand that he tapped you on the shoulder and said it would be a good thing to stock up?
So I think he will see to it that you can still prep (or restock as you use)even while you are out of work.
I think it really is about time everyone tightens their belts and figure out ways to beat the system.

  2. Sorry to hear about your job loss. It really brings home the value of being prepared. Several months of food on hand is a better way to face the job hunt than with nothing on hand. Praying for a quick opening of opportunity for you.

  3. Lost your job? That is really a bummer, especially now. Was it expected, or was this that was obviously on the horizon?

What kind of work are you looking for? Can, or would you relocate?

I know, a lot of nosy questions, but I really want to be able to pray specifically for you.

May God richly bless you and yours.

  4. I am sorry you lost your job, but praising for you that you do have some food storage. I pray you will be employed soon.
A good time to start a garden too :)

  5. I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job. As others have said, it is so good that you have been preparing. I tell folks all the time that these are some of the things we prep for. I've been so thankful during this past year that we have been prepping, as this is what helped get us through.
Just wanted you to know that you and yours are in my prayers.

  6. Sorry to hear you lost your job. It wouldn't hurt to put a PayPal donation button on your site for people who might want to help out. Just sayin'...

  7. Thanks for the idea, Orange Jeep Dad, but I'd rather have work than donations. :) This blog isn't costing me a penny, so I try to provide a free service to others by running the blog.

If any of you know of anyone who's writing a book or other manuscript that they'd like to have proofread, that sort of thing is what I've been doing for the better part of 15 years, the last 10 working for a newspaper. E-mail me at the address I posted above if you or anyone you know is looking for a proofreader, and I'd be happy to take on new projects!

  8. I called it "my food savings account." After not being prepared during 1st lay-off and fearing about how to feed our kids, the 2nd layoff had a full pantry and used our money mostly for expenses. It was such a relief.

  9. Gardenlady, you're right on the money. Once we buy food for our storage, our "savings" get locked in and we don't have to pay more if the prices go up because we already have food! At this point the only thing I really need to buy in the next year is milk or other dairy products, and bread (until we hopefully start making our own bread from rice soon). Everything else we need, we've already stocked up on it!
